Shannon taught both of my children and I count her as one of the best educators we have ever encountered. She has a true gift for connecting with people, both children and adults. It’s through this connection that she is able to motivate students. Combined with her stellar teaching ability and years of experience, her empathy and warmth make her the kind of teacher who will not only import knowledge and skills, but also will inspire students to become better learners and people.
— Jody M. (parent of former students and friend)
Kind. Caring. Engaged. Open. Understanding. Dedicated. Shannon taught my child for three years and those are the words that come to mind when I think of her. As she moves from the classroom into a more specialized role in helping children, I can only say the kiddos, and parents alike, will be fortunate to have her. The experience and skills she will bring with her are sure to have an even greater positive impact when working one on one with students.

Our family has known Shannon Bognovitz for 12 years. She taught 4th, 5th and 6th grade to all three of our children at a Montessori School in Charlotte, NC. Shannon provided the valuable foundation that was essential for our children’s growth and learning development during those important years. They all cherished and loved having “Ms. Shannon” as their teacher. Our oldest is now a junior at Chapel Hill, our son is a sophomore at Appalachian, and our youngest daughter is a sophomore in high school. Shannon is a big reason they are all confident and successful today.

Ms. Shannon was my teacher for three years. She taught me in fourth through sixth grade and in that time she instilled good morals and lifelong lessons. She became my friend as well as my teacher and she is a very kind and giving soul. She is great with children and works well with her peers.
— Tyler F. (Current 8th level student)
Shannon is a gift and one of those teachers a child will always remember! She has a keen ability to understand each individual student’s abilities and strengths. She not only imparts knowledge, but inspires and encourages students to be their best self. She is a warm, encouraging person who loves her students unconditionally. She is a positive and nurturing leader who instills a love of learning in children. Shannon has a way of not only opening their minds but also touching their hearts. She taught my son for three years during his upper elementary years in a Montessori school. I can honestly say, those were his best three years of schooling thus far. She constantly strived to understand my son as a learner and help him achieve his maximum potential. During those years, he thoroughly enjoyed attending school and had joy in his heart! Shannon was a wonderful mentor, who he looked up to with tremendous love and respect. She was so much more than his teacher, she was his “hero” and a guiding light in so many ways!
— Jennifer S. (parent of former student)
I have had the privilege of Shannon teaching both of my children. With my daughter, Shannon was able to engage her while also pushing her academically without creating unnecessary stress. With our son, Shannon recognized his strengths and weaknesses which required her to individualize her instruction to meet his needs. She embraced him for being him and encouraged that uniqueness.
— Sherry N. (parent of former students)
What we discovered in her teaching of our son was Shannon’s blend of intellectual rigor and compassion. She demands as much as a child can do—more than they think they can—but does so in ways so gentle and encouraging that they find a way to get there. A first rate teacher.
